Rock Springs facility to host seminars Tuesday
From Staff Reports
APPLE VALLEY • A local retirement facility is planning two informational workshops Tuesday aimed at educating people on social security and other benefits, according to news releases from Senior Planning Advisors in Victorville.
Volunteer Veteran Advocate John Dubots will present a seminar for veterans and surviving spouses on long term care benefits at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The seminar aims to help veterans and widows or widowers of veterans learn about tax-free pensions from the Veterans Administration, and the VA Non-Service Connected Disability Pension — what it is, who can qualify and how to apply.
Then, a workshop titled, “Savvy Social Security Planning: What Baby Boomers Need to Know to Maximize Retirement Income,” is planned for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. This workshop will cover several topics to help baby boomers better understand the Social Security system, including:
• five factors to consider when deciding when to apply for benefits;
• when it makes sense to delay benefits — and when it does not;
• why you should always check your earnings record for accuracy;
• how to estimate your benefits;
• how to coordinate benefits with your spouse;
• how to minimize taxes on Social Security benefits;
• how to coordinate Social Security with your other sources of retirement income.
Seating is limited for both workshops at Rock Springs Independent Living, 20594 Bear Valley Road in Apple Valley. Reserve a seat by calling 760-241-2257.
