Auditions for ‘The Music Man’ open to all ages
From Staff Reports
Hannett-Thorn Productions is looking for actors and actresses to fill one of 70 roles in The Music Man, the first ever, full-length, live musical to be presented outdoors at the Civic Center Park Amphitheater in June.
The Music Man is the story of Harold Hill, a con-man who sells instruments and uniforms with the promise to form a youth band, but actually plans to skip town with the money. He is foiled when he falls for a prim librarian who sees through his scheme. Many in the audience will recognize songs such as “Ya Got Trouble (Right Here in River City)” and “76 Trombones” from the popular score.
“We are proud to work with the Town of Apple Valley in bringing this heartwarming, fun musical to the amphitheater stage,” said Danny Thorn, producer/director and partner in HTP, “and hope the citizens of Apple Valley enjoy this show.”
Auditions to find a Harold Hill, Marian the librarian and many other roles will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 25 through 27. Boys, girls, men and women of all ages should come prepared to sing a song and read from the script. A CD player and MP3 plug-in will be available.
Auditions will be held at the Town of Apple Valley Recreation Center, 14955 Dale Evans Parkway. The entrance is from the east parking lot, behind Town Hall. Enter off of Outer Highway 18 and Wakita Road.
The Music Man will be offered free to the community at 8 p.m. June 19, 20 and 21 through the generous support of the following donors: presenting “Music Man” sponsor, Mr. Richard Rorex; “Harold Hill” sponsors Wal-Mart and Parsons; “River City” donors include Apple Valley Communications, Choice Medical Group and Greiner Buick, GMC. Additional support has been provided by Dokken Engineering, Solution Strategies, Shear Realty and Burrtec.
HTP (Hannett-Thorn-Productions) has been providing live musical theater to the High Desert since 2009. They recently produced Les Miserables, and were the first community theater group in Southern California to secure the rights to this production.
