A local water provider said Friday that cleanup was continuing for the two homes damaged Tuesday when a water main broke.
The break occurred at the intersection of Pineridge and Jicarilla roads near Highway 18. Two homes and 10 yards were flooded, according to Apple Valley Ranchos Water Co.
“At this time we are in the cleaning phase, then a contractor will assess what needs to be done,” a spokesman for AVR said.
A company statement continued:
“We have put up folks whose homes were damaged by water in a hotel. A check was given to them to help with food, incidentals and gas, as they work in Apple Valley. ... All contents will be repaired or replaced. Any outside damage that occurred will be repaired or replaced to include landscaping.”

With a heart to care and hands to serve, a local medical group has teamed up with a local church to offer food, clothes and medical care to the homeless.
Michelle Stewart, a spokeswoman for We Win For Health medical group in Apple Valley, said the group’s outreach to the homeless community near the Mojave River has been well received.
“We’re working with Friendly Temple on E Street on the last Saturday of the month to hand out food and clothing, and to give free health screenings,” Stewart said. “Once a month, usually on a third Saturday, we do bigger events like giving out clothes and doing free health screenings to see if homeless are healthy.”
Stewart said the outreach begins at 9 a.m. and goes “until everyone is cared for.” She also said her group does a smaller food outreach at Eva Dell Park, usually on the first Saturday of the month.

The Civic was traveling southbound on Central Road and entered the intersection, colliding with the unmarked Sheriff’s vehicle.
The driver of the Civic was later identified as Paul Cid, 30, of Apple Valley, according to Sheriff’s officials.
