Holiday time is almost here again and folks will soon be on the hunt for the perfect gifts to present to their loved ones. As an alternative to the crowded malls and shopping centers, the town will offer its annual Holiday Craft Fair from 9 a.m. on 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
It’s set for the conference center at Town Hall, 14975 Dale Evans Parkway.
Event coordinator Julie Gilmer says the Holiday Craft Fair aims to offer shoppers an opportunity to purchase 100-percent handmade items by local artisans. Merchandise will include everything from blankets and jewelry to body products and holiday décor.
“The goal of this event has always been to showcase the work of local hobbyists,” said Gilmer. “Their items are very unique and not something you can find at a store. People really seem to love the fact that they can buy that one-of-a-kind thing for someone that perfectly suits their taste or interest.”
According to Gilmer, the craft fair will feature over 50 vendors. Along with the marketplace, youngsters will have the opportunity to participate in a free craft project.
“This year the kids will be making holiday-themed picture frames,” said Gilmer. “And all the materials will be supplied free of charge.”
During the event, Gilmer said Santa will be on site for photo opportunities. Prints will be available immediately and prices will range from $7 for a 5x7 to $25 for three 8.5x11-inch glossy sheets.
“The craft fair is an awesome time to see Santa,” said Gilmer. “In the past, there usually haven’t been big crowds waiting, so the kids that are there will be able to spend some real quality time with him. It’s way better than visiting Santa at the mall.”
In addition to all the festivities at the craft fair, raffle items will be awarded throughout each day. Prizes will include items donated by the vendors.
All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the town’s Teen Zone program, Gilmer said. Teen Zone is a volunteer organization for youngsters ages 13-16. It provides them the chance to become involved with the community through volunteering opportunities. It also helps teens prepare for their future, whether it be going to work full time or attending college.
“It’s just amazing to see how many teens this program has helped,” said Gilmer. “Many in the program will be helping out at the craft fair, so we are donating the money raised from the raffle as a way of saying ‘thank you.’”
Admission and parking to the craft fair are free. A food vendor will be at the event offering breakfast and lunch items, as well as beverages for sale.
