Sheriff’s station to operate as usual; Town Hall reopens Jan. 5

From Staff Reports

With the Christmas week here, the town has announced the closure of most of its departments through the beginning of next year.

Apple Valley Town Hall will close Wednesday and is scheduled to reopen on Jan. 5. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Apple Valley Station will operate as usual. Essential services will still be performed and building inspections will be offered during the closure except on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 911. For emergencies concerning sewer, water, flooding, traffic signs or signals, vicious dogs, dogs with life-threatening injuries, or emergencies regarding a town facility, call the town’s after-hours dispatch at 760-961-6001.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will be closed Saturday but will operate as usual from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 3.

Apple Valley Municipal Animal Shelter will be open Saturday, Dec. 30, 31 and Jan. 2 and 3. For animal emergencies outside these hours, call the town’s after-hours dispatch. Calls for service will be screened to determine urgency. Special arrangements will be made for turning in strays or picking up lost pets at the shelter or in the field. If your pet gets loose, contact the shelter immediately at 760-240-7000, ext. 7555; leave a message with a complete description and contact information. Residents whose pet has been turned in to the shelter but cannot be returned immediately will not be charged for boarding that day. This does not include the holidays or weekends.

The Town Council approved this holiday closure to save operating costs as well as reduce paid leave liability. For non-emergency inquiries, visit www.AppleValley.org and click “Let us Know.”
