From Staff Reports
Some may end their year with a bang, but at VVAPL Humane Society, 2014 ended with an absolute “bow wow, meow!” The exceptional year for the humane society had some fantastic accomplishments and memorable firsts, due in large part to their many supporters.
The first countywide online fundraising campaign called Give BIG San Bernardino County helped the humane society jump-start their efforts to raise funds for a mobile adoption vehicle. With funding now in place, VVAPL is shopping for a motor home to remodel. Look for “Dogs on the Go! Mobile Adoption Vehicle” in late spring 2015.
Off-site adoption events were highly successful. The San Bernardino County Fair’s first pet adoption event resulted in a record
50 animals finding homes in 10 days. The September and November PetSmart National Adoption Weekends garnered homes for 60 dogs and cats.
The C.A.R.E.S. Animal Safety/Responsible Pet Ownership program was presented to over 5,000 children in the Victor Valley. Thanks to the partnership with Adelanto Animal Care & Control, this program was instrumental in educating children about animals.
The Holiday Food Drive was a tremendous success raising more than 6,200 pounds of pet food, resulting in the humane society’s first free pet adoption event. Forty cats and dogs found their forever homes at no charge to their new families.
VVAPL Humane Society works hard to help the animals of the Victor Valley. More than 1,200 cats and dogs found new homes, and the spay/neuter clinic performed over 3,000 surgeries to help put an end to pet overpopulation.
VVAPL Humane Society is thankful to everyone who had a part in the many successes of 2014 and is looking forward to big things in 2015 as they continue to make a difference one life at a time.
