An 8.0 magnitude earthquake strikes the Victor Valley.

What do you do?

Residents will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare for such an event and other major disasters at the sixth annual Shake, Rattle & Roll Out Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, according to a Town news release.

In the wake of last week's River Bottom Fire, officials say the timing of Saturday's fair is appropriate.

"The recent Mojave Riverbed fire incident drives home the importance of being prepared. That preparation begins at home for each citizen," said Town Manager Frank Robinson. "Having an evacuation plan for families, their pets and livestock could make the difference between life and death and an event like Shake, Rattle and Roll Out is a good opportunity for families to take an active part in their own emergency preparedness."

Hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Desert Knolls, the four-hour event will include presentations on first aid and CPR; fire prevention; outdoor survival; water purification; emergency utilities; disaster restoration; emergency budgeting; emergency animal care; alternative fuel sources; gardening and food storage; dutch oven and solar cooking; and using social media in an emergency.

Admission and parking are free. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 15500 Tuscola Road. For more information, contact Lance Roberts at 760-617-9532 or lancealot7591@aol.com, visit www.applevalleyevents.org or call 760-240-7000, ext. 7071.
