Winners of annual chili cook-off announced

Lenny Brewster Sports Center was a hub of spice and fun last week as it hosted the 14th annual Happy Trails Chili Cook-off.

Temperatures soaring into the mid-90s on Oct. 10 didn't stop crowds of hungry High Desert patrons from turning out to the park and shelling out $5 for a tasting kit.

The event was sanctioned by the International Chili Society. First-place winners qualify for the World's Championship event in 2016 and the top three winners in each category are awarded points that get them closer to earning a spot for the World's event.
