Online survey available now
From Staff Reports
Residents who wished they had a say in how local government decides how to distribute grant funds for community needs and services now have that chance.
The town of Apple Valley and city of Victorville are seeking community input on how it spends Community Development Block Grant and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds for the 2014/2015 fiscal year, according to a town news release.
The CDGB program began in 1974 as a means to provide decent, affordable housing, a suitable living environment, and economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income, according to the release. The HOME program focuses on providing affordable housing in the community.
In 2004, Apple Valley and Victorville formed a consortium to qualify for HOME funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the release states.
Past surveys have been instrumental in allocating funding to support programs such as homeless shelters, domestic violence centers, food distribution programs, down payment assistance, road improvements and much more, according to officials.
A public hearing will be held at the Apple Valley Council Chambers on Oct. 22 to receive input from residents and interested parties in person.
Residents can provide their opinion by participating in the survey available on the Town of Apple Valley website at www.applevalley.org. Paper versions are also available at Town Hall or the Development Services Building, 14955 Dale Evans Parkway.
Surveys not taken online may be delivered or mailed to Town Hall at the address above, emailed to Christopher Moore at cmoore@applevalley.org or brought to the public hearing.
